****UPDATE THEY ARE A SCAM********* Be careful. Penske’s own inspection report shows that Richard Petersen inspected and passed the DEF system, DPF, SCR system, sensors, wiring, and related emissions components. Less than a month after purchase, our truck now has an engine shutdown warning and major DEF system issues. Our SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY BAD. It’s very disappointing to spend this much money on a truck that supposedly passed inspection, only to be facing costly emissions repairs almost immediately. This experience has left me questioning how thorough the inspection process really was. This isn’t an over night problem they sold the truck knowing this was an issue and signed off on it. I am extremely disappointed with my experience purchasing a truck from Penske. Our loan started on April 8, but we were unable to pick up the truck until May 11 because of delays surrounding the MV-41 paperwork. The person handling our purchase repeatedly insisted Penske could not complete the MV-41 for an out-of-state buyer, when in reality Penske was the party that needed to complete it. That misinformation caused unnecessary delays and frustration. To make matters worse, our title was also sent to the wrong address. Communication was great until Penske received payment. After that, it became very difficult to get answers or get in touch with anyone. Now, less than 30 days after taking possession of the truck, the red “Shut Off Engine” warning light has appeared. As a small business owner, this is the last thing you want to see after investing so much money into a truck.
Bought a truck from them 3/2/2026, on the way home the check engine light came on. They advised to take it horwith truck repairs. They had my truck for 4 weeks, when I got it back it broke down again on account of their negligence. Do not use them.
I decided to give Penske another shot, hoping to avoid potential issues. During my interaction with the sales representative, Brennan, I expressed my concerns regarding the extended downtime that often accompanies purchasing a Penske unit. To address this, I provided them with a comprehensive and detailed checklist of items to verify and inspect before my purchase. The majority of the items on the checklist were straightforward, such as the operational APU, the absence of engine lights, and the absence of significant oil leaks. The sales representative Brennan assured me that Penske conducted a thorough pre-sale inspection and that the unit would be in working condition with a functioning APU. On August 26th, 2025, I confirmed all the items on my checklist and was informed that the unit was being prepared. After a two-week waiting period, I was finally notified that the unit was ready. I confirmed with the shop and the post-sales representative that all items on my checklist had been completed and ready on September 12th. Penske subsequently processed the payment for the units on September 16th. However, upon receiving the units, I was met with significant disappointment. The unit I had purchased was missing several components and deviated from the visual representation I had seen online. The APU was non-operational, and the unit appeared to have been subjected to vandalism. I promptly contacted my sales representative, believing that there must have been an error. To my dismay, I was informed that Penske had a no-refund policy and that the sales representative would contact a re-marketing representative to address any concerns. Reluctantly, I demanded a refund, as the truck I had purchased was not in accordance with its description. After prolonged negotiations, I was forcibly removed from the sales lot. Given that I had already paid for insurance and had scheduled an inspection, I made the decision to drive the truck off the premises. Not long after, I discovered that the truck had multiple check engine lights and was leaking oil from the filter housing, all around the oil pan, rear bell housing, and experiencing a bad vibration, shimmy, low coolant, and a low coolant light. I immediately called back and demanded a refund once again. They refused the refund and told me they have the right to repair any issues as of the purchase agreement. My major problem is the I was lied to tricked into purchasing a truck that I was specifically told was in operating condition and checked all my boxes. After telling them about the condition of the truck I was told I must immediately take it to there shop as they won’t fix any progressive damage that occurs from running the unit. I was told there’d have it fixed in a reasonable amount of time. I again demanded a refund Now over well over month later, insurances, plates, registration fees, hotel and travel, with no end in sight they still refuse to refund me. It’s currently October 20th 2025. I have given them multiple outs from day one, from refund to letting be pick another unit. Now over two months from my initial deposit on this specific truck, and I am absolutely disgusted with how Penske treats its customers. It appears they will say and do anything to sell a truck. I cannot advise any small fleet or owner-operators strongly enough to steer clear of Penske. As a repeat customer, I can say if you didn’t have problems the first time, consider yourself lucky.
My first rental experience they charged me for fuel even though I returned the truck with more fuel then they gave me. I was issued a refund because I took before and after photos. My second rental I was charged for ifta because I did not have my fuel receipts at the time, sent in the fuel receipts a few days later and was told this was everything needed to work on a refund. 13 months later I'm still working on getting a refund always excuses, can being kicked down the road. I consider this theft until they make good. On the sales side of the company I had them back out of an agreement and increase the purchase price after I just purchased one other truck from them. After the theft on the rental side I wouldn't be surprised of a con move on the sales side.
Don't understand why I have to take 3 pictures of my liscense - Everytime I come in - 4 days out of the week... Just save the info. What kind of Mickey mouse system are we using here? Thought you guys were big time.
